Takeaway experience for Studioforce

Dave Stevens, Studioforce’s operations director was responsible for delivering and managing a team of approximately 10 lighting and 15 scenic crew members to assist in the production of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway during his tenure with ITV Studios.

His team included:
Lighting gaffer
9 electricians, 6 of which operated follow spots during the show
A scenic supervisor
9 studio hands

Directly responsible for liaising with the set designer and lighting designer to deliver all the requirements regarding the crew and schedule. There were various generic and intelligent lighting rigged for this, along with a lot of video product within the set structure. Whilst the scenic and lighting teams managed by Dave operated all set, prop and lighting moves throughout the live show.

The studio build began at 0.30am on the Friday morning preceding the Saturday transmission. Once the set was built overnight, the show crew took over and carried out rehearsals throughout the Friday and Saturday.

Once the production was complete the overnight crew would return to de-rig the studio and prepare it for the next production, which was often the very next day.

Anyone who knows the programme knows this was a highly challenging environment; lots of set and scenery changes, extremely fast moving and broadcast live so no margin for error.
